Live Debris is an ongoing work of documentation, research, collaboration and art committed to understanding the confluence of material culture and social exclusion. The dual reflexes of disposal and rejection reflect humanity’s enduring tendency to disavow that which is normatively deemed less valuable. Distance from the people and things that society discards enables us to participate in these dynamics, often without intention or awareness. Live Debris attempts to deconstruct the barriers between people and their waste as a strategy for exposing deeper social barriers that hinder economic, social and environmental justice.
